Who could tell Sean Borg had just turned 51? Not us!
The British socialite appeared fresh-faced and at least ten years younger than his real age would have us believe as he arrived at Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa in the city of Palm Springs to celebrate his birthday with super-group Duran Duran on Thursday night.
By his admission, Sean is still a massive fan of one of the biggest pop music acts Britain has seen and has been since the early eighties. He became friends with members of the band — including drummer Roger Taylor and keyboardist Nick Rhodes (pictured), knowing them since the mid-nineties.
The former TMZ personality-turned-Trivago guy cut a cool figure as he arrived at Agua Caliente’s—‘The Show,’ dressed in high-end casual, wearing a trendy John Varvatos camouflage-style jacket, ripped jeans, with a pair of cool “Ace GG Supreme” (Gucci) sneakers with gold bumblebees, and a stylish “GG” Gucci belt to complete his look.
Sean told Verna Magazine, backstage at the popular desert venue: “I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen Duran Duran perform live. So I was delighted to get a surprise text from my friend Roger (Taylor) on the morning of my birthday, reminding me I had tickets waiting for me at the box office. I’ve loved them since Planet Earth, and I still can’t get enough of Girls on Film and Wild Boys. Their music never gets old for me.”
“I pinch myself sometimes when I’m watching them play because I know them well now and have done for many years. But I guess they will always be my pop-idols,” he said.
This isn’t the first time Duran Duran booked this venue on their tour. The last time they did it followed a sold-out performance at the gigantic Hollywood Bowl.
The Show at Agua Caliente offered fans a 90-minute set in an arena-style stage setting but with an intimate theater vibe giving big-name acts like Duran Duran an opportunity to connect to their fans in an unprecedented and special experience.
The music legends formed in Birmingham (UK) in 1978. The band was one of the most successful acts of the 1980s, but by the end of the decade, music style changes challenged the bands staying power, however, they had a huge resurgence in the early 1990s with hits Come Undone and Ordinary World.
Sean attended the ‘Paper Gods’ event with skincare celebrity Sabastian Reich. The pair danced the night away at the side of the stage to well-known hits Rio, The Reflex and Notorious.
The expat, based in Los Angeles is best known for his work on TV Guide’s Hollywood 411 and TMZ. It was also rumored recently that he is set to join the new Trivago campaign line-up after promotional shots surfaced on the Internet leading fans to believe he might be one of the new faces in the upcoming television advertisements.
Although nothing has been officially announced yet, Borg is the popular choice on social media among the Trivago die-hards.
In a recent interview with trendy Voyage LA, the well-connected entertainment guru reflected on his career in Los Angeles, saying: “Los Angeles can be a very tough place at times. I moved from the UK in 2005 and have been here ever since. Nothing was ever smooth. I’ve always had to chase people down to get noticed, and that’s OK. Nothing has ever fallen in my lap. I think that’s what makes one a survivor, not having it easy in this very tough industry.
“I think what sets me apart from others, is, I will take a few risks — I often say to myself, “Well if it all fails, then f**K it, start again!” (Laughs) I have so many areas of the entertainment industry under my belt — I mean, I have tried it all. I have produced TV shows, PR’d people to the front pages of newspapers and magazines worldwide, I have hosted on TV, been the face of brands myself, so with all that knowledge and understanding, I can use that to my advantage to help others.”
