Not many people in the world can get close to Kim Kardashian, but television’s travel and lifestyle personality Sean Borg did just that. But, not only did the “Trivago Guy” get close to Kim, but he was also lucky to have a quick lesson on how to take a perfect selfie on the red carpet posing with the Queen of social media herself – Kim K!
It was back in April 2017 when Sean attended the world premiere of Christian Bale’s movie “The Promise.” Kim was the guest star at the event, along with her sister Kourtney.
Sean, 52, told No.1 Australian website Best in AU: “I hadn’t seen Kim for years until that night. I met her through Paris Hilton well over a decade ago, and way before she was famous. It was back when I was working on the TV show, TMZ.”
And the connection between Sean and Kim? Sean said: “I would often bump into her with Paris at clubs like Hyde and Les Deux. She was always so sweet and down to earth. So it was nice to run into her at the film premiere.”
And, it was Sean’s very distinctive British voice that featured on Kim and Ray J’s infamous sex-tape news story that ran exclusively on TMZ — the show that gave Kim’s Hollywood career a big boost.
It was when Sean was walking on the red carpet at the famous landmark TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, that fate struck. Kim arrived around the same time.
Sean continued, “It was mayhem on the press line, the photographers were calling out my name as was I posing for a few pictures, then I heard them shouting out ‘Kim, KIM,’ and as I turned around, there she was. She recognized me straight away and waved over at me.”
Sean continued: “I slowed down my pace along the press line so that Kim would catch up with me. I thought to myself, I had to have a selfie her. And why not?!”
As Kim, 39, approached the entertainment star, she gave him a big grin and said, “Heyyyyy.” Sean said: “Everyone was looking in our direction.” He then lifted his iPhone and asked Kim to pose for a picture.
Sean said: “She was cool about taking a picture with me and laughed at my first attempt, as it was so awful. Kim came out blurred in the picture. So she gave me a little direction on the second one. She told me to ‘hold the camera to the side for a better angle, and then slowly spin,’ until I found my best light. It worked! Well…Kim looks great in the picture, but me? — Um, not so much.”
During Sean’s on-the-quick selfie lesson Hollywood’s Queen, he remembered that Kim showed him how to hold the camera correctly. “She said, I had it down ‘big time’! ‘You’re good at this,’ she told me.”
“Considering we only had a minute’s lesson to take the picture before media and autograph hunters besieged her, I think she did an excellent job in giving me advice.”
“I think I still look horrible in the pictures, but Kim looks great. And so she should. She is the Queen of selfies! Sometimes it can be challenging to take a flattering photo of yourself, so, who better to take direction from than Kim?” he laughed.
Sean, who recently quit showbiz journalism to work in lifestyle and travel television, he arrived in Tinsel-town in the mid-90s after moving from the UK. Recently it was announced that Netflix TV chiefs in Mumbai want to meet with Sean to discuss potential travel TV opportunities.
Borg, currently known for the Trivago advertisements in Europe, he plans his visit India for business meetings in early 2020.
His spokesperson, Akhilendra Sahu, who represents the branding and style ambassador, said: “Sean is planning a trip to Bollywood in the New Year. He has a love for India like no other country in the world, its people have embraced his work, and he is excited to visit early next year. He is thrilled to have this opportunity.”
