There is going to be a lot of rain and fog in the Chicago area on Sunday, but later in the week there may be some sunny breaks in the weather.
Several more rounds of rain, mixed precipitation, and even snow are expected before the area reaches that point, beginning on Sunday morning. In the city’s northern and western suburbs, particularly those close to DeKalb and LaSalle County, where temperatures are hovering close to freezing, a distinct boundary separates rain from mixed precipitation.
With that system, some snow is predicted, but in some places, rain and mixed precipitation will persist into the late morning or early afternoon.
Forecast models indicate that while the precipitation should stop by this afternoon, cloudy conditions will linger for the rest of the day.
With readings in the low 40s throughout the region, temperatures are predicted to be roughly in line with their seasonal averages.

Another brief system is expected to pass through the area late Monday and early Tuesday, bringing rain and then snow as the temperature drops over night. The area may see a few light snow accumulations from that system before it moves out late Tuesday morning.
With temperatures back in the low 40s on Tuesday, the snow is not predicted to stick around for long.
The weather will finally warm up on Thursday, though, with sunny skies and lows in the low 50s throughout the Chicago region. Although another weather system may bring temperatures back into the 40s by the following weekend, that will also be the case on Friday.
