Due to the return of precipitation due to a low-pressure system, residents in the Chicago area may have a soggy commute on Thursday morning.
It is predicted that the system will arrive late on Wednesday and continue into Thursday morning, bringing with it rain and possibly snow to the area.
Though temperatures will probably stay close to freezing, accumulations should be light. The northern and western suburbs of Chicago are predicted to experience the heaviest snowfall.
Up until Thursday morning, there may be minor accumulations on grassy and elevated surfaces, and there may be road impacts.
Forecast models indicate that the precipitation in Chicago and the southern suburbs should stay liquid, with lows in the mid-30s.
Thursday’s scattered showers will stick around for the duration of the day and may even last until Friday before finally clearing out.
Sunday should bring cooler temperatures and highs in the low to mid-30s throughout the region, with dry conditions continuing. Things are predicted to dry out as the new year begins, with cool temperatures in the low-30s through at least the start of the short work week, following a chance of flurries or light snow showers on Sunday.
