Chicago’s spectacular New Year’s Eve fireworks show along the riverfront will return in 2024, making it a memorable event.
When are Chicago’s New Year’s Eve fireworks?
On December 31, the festivities begin with the Mart showcase at 7:30 p.m., and continue into the new year with midnight fireworks displays from six bridges along the river and a countdown to the clock at 11:55 p.m.
After the countdown to the new year, there’s a 10-minute fireworks celebration at Navy Pier, 600 E. Grand Ave., starting at midnight.
Where will Chicago’s New Year’s Eve fireworks take place?
Though riverfront access will be limited starting at 11 p.m., guests are welcome to view the show along Upper Wacker Drive from McClurg Court to Franklin Street.
Along the lakefront, there will also be a countdown and fireworks show at Navy Pier.
How are they available to watch at home?
Homes throughout the area will be able to enjoy a view of the city’s enormous fireworks display thanks to NBC 5’s yearly, Emmy-nominated “A Very Chicago New Year.”
Starting on December 31 at 11 p.m. CT, “A Very Chicago New Year” will showcase festivities across the Chicago region. Chicago Today’s Matt Rodrigues and Cortney Hall in Bridgeport will host the show at the recently renovated Ramova Theatre, while NBC 5 anchor Evrod Cassimy and Country Music Television’s Marley Sherwood will host at the famous Palmer House in downtown Chicago. There will also be appearances by the competitors from the popular Netflix reality series “Love is Blind”.
Featuring sets by some of Chicago’s best jazz musicians, Corgan and Mendel will present an evening of performances from their well-liked teahouse, Madame ZuZu’s in Highland Park.
Billy Corgan & Friends will be performing alongside indie rock sensation Mt. Joy, and singer-songwriter and three-time Latin Billboard Music Award winner Ivan Cornejo.
Do the fireworks come free of charge?
According to officials, parking is not free at Navy Pier, but admission to the show is.
Will any streets be closed off?
Starting at 11:45 p.m., the bridges over Franklin, LaSalle, Clark, Dearborn, and State Streets will close. At 12:15 a.m., the bridges are anticipated to reopen. During that time, the Columbus Bridge will also be closed.
Wabash and Michigan Avenue bridges will continue to be open.
What other information is there for you to know?
The event, which will feature highlights of artists’ works from the previous five years, will be held in collaboration with Art on the Mart projections on the facade of the Merchandise Mart (222 W. Merchandise Mart Plaza).
According to the official statement made in cooperation with the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, “Chicagoans have the unique ability to find hope and resilience in each day and New Year’s Eve is the foundation of beginning a new year with the same unbridled optimism.” Mayor Brandon Johnson made the statement.
