X is expanding its save-for-later features with the introduction of a new History tab that brings together bookmarks, likes, videos and articles in one place for easier access.
The feature is initially rolling out on iOS. X head of product Nikita Bier described the new addition as a more convenient way for users to keep track of their favorite content and revisit items they want to finish reading or watching later.
As part of the update, the Bookmarks option in the left-side menu of the X mobile app has been renamed History. The new section organizes saved content into four tabs — Bookmarks, Likes, Videos and Articles — allowing users to quickly return to previously viewed content whenever they want. While Bookmarks and Likes are manually saved items, the Videos and Articles tabs are automatically populated based on content users watch or read on X. According to Bier, the History section remains private to each user.
The new feature makes X function more like a web browser, where users can revisit content they have previously viewed even if they did not intentionally save it. It also combines features that were previously located in separate areas of the app, with bookmarks previously found in the main menu and likes accessible only through a tab on user profiles.
The change may also encourage wider use of X’s long-form article feature, which the company has been promoting as a tool for businesses and creators to share content beyond the platform’s traditional 280-character post limit. Users can now keep track of articles they discover while scrolling, effectively turning the app into a more personalized news-reading experience.
The update arrives as web publishers continue seeing reduced referral traffic from platforms such as Facebook and Google, largely because of changing algorithms and AI-powered experiences that have lowered clicks to external websites. X views this shift as an opportunity to attract more publishers and creators to publish directly on its platform, where content distribution and discovery are already integrated.
