Some parents rang in the new year with a brand-new bundle of joy, while the majority celebrated with food and confetti.
The first 2024 newborns were revealed on Monday by Advocate Health Care, Northwestern Medicine, and UChicago Medicine.
Parents On January 1 at 3:18 a.m., Wheeling residents Emily and Wes Ortman welcomed their first child, Ocean, into Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. He was 18.7 inches in length and weighed 5 pounds, 2.4 ounces.
Ocean’s parents told CBS 2’s Andrew Ramos that they didn’t anticipate spending New Year’s Eve in the delivery room, but Ocean had other ideas.

“We got told by our OGBYN basically she had high blood pressure [and] to get it checked out,” stated Wes Ortman. “And based on the results and tests they were doing, we were told, ‘Hey, you know what? We have bad news for you. You’re having your baby this weekend.”
Jordan and Lindsey Platts, the parents, from Hinsdale, followed closely behind. Henry was born at UChicago Medicine AdventHealth in Hinsdale at 4:44 p.m. He was 19.5 inches long and weighed six pounds, five ounces. His two-year-old brother Lane will greet him warmly when he gets home.
At Advocate Christ Medical Centre, Kiara and Robert Rhodes, of Crete, welcomed baby Rue at 5:05 a.m. Her length was 17 inches, and her weight was four pounds, nine ounces.
Rue has joined her two elder brothers, Robert and Kitvi, as the family’s first girl.
Pearl Noelle Hodge, Andrea Cladis-Hodge and Matthew Hodge’s third child, was born shortly after that at 5:28 a.m.
In Geneva, at Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital, Pearle was born. She was 19.5 inches long and weighed 7 pounds, 5 ounces.
The first child of Andrea and Matthew was born on New Year’s Eve.
Ramos said, “It sounds like a very expensive double party that’s gonna happen every year.”
Hodge says, “I think it’ll be a very expensive December month, yeah.”
Dr. Peter Cladis, Pearle’s maternal grandfather, has worked as a doctor at Delnor Hospital for forty years.
Moses Tenorio, weighing 6 pounds, 4 ounces, and measuring 18 inches, was born at Stroger Hospital at 9:39 a.m. and became the first infant for Cook County Health. Cosme Tenorio and Marisol Feliciano, his parents, are from Chicago.
