Japan’s Suzuki has finally debuted its first all-electric vehicle. On Monday, Suzuki debuted the e Vitara in Europe, a global electric SUV that will soon join Toyota’s lineup.
Toyota and Suzuki have formed a partnership to stay up with the industry’s shifts to electric. Last month, the two companies announced that Suzuki would supply Toyota with a new global electric SUV.
The new SUV is designed “exclusively as a BEV,” with a new platform co-developed by Suzuki, Toyota, and Daihatsu Motor.
After presenting the e Vitara on Monday, Suzuki provided a more detailed look at what to expect. Suzuki’s new EV is based on the eVX Concept, which debuted at the Auto Expo in India last January.
Based on the “Emotional Versatile Cruiser” idea, Suzuki stated that the electric SUV’s design “combines a sense of advanced technology and strength.” The EV is powered by a new dedicated “HEARTECT-e” platform and powertrain, providing a quick and sharp driving experience.
Suzuki’s new powertrain includes the eAxle (electric motor and inverter) and lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries.

The platform, which was specifically designed for EVs, offers a large interior for passengers. Suzuki’s electric SUV also includes an AWD “ALLGRIP-e” system for enhanced off-road capability and performance.
Toshihiro Suzuki, Suzuki’s president, stated that the company will “continue to expand our BEV line-up and propose mobility solutions tailored to the needs of specific countries and regions.”
At 4,275 mm long, 1,800 mm wide, and 1,635 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm, the e Vitara is about the size of Kia’s new EV3 (4,300 mm long, 1,850 mm wide, and 1,560 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,680 mm).
Although the exact driving range has yet to be announced, the electric SUV will be available with 49 and 61 kWh battery options. Last January, Suzuki announced that the idea will have a driving range of up to 342 miles (550 kilometers).
Suzuki will begin production of the new electric SUV at its Gujarat plant in India in Spring 2025, where it will also supply Toyota. Sales will begin in Europe, India, and Japan around summer 2025.
