Finally, a new electric SUV from Toyota is being released. The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV was introduced on Thursday.
Meet the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV
After the bZ4X, the Toyota Urban Cruiser is the brand’s second electric SUV. It is an unofficial successor for the 2014 discontinuation of the gas-powered model.
The Urban Cruiser EV stands apart from Toyota’s other models thanks to its innovative EV platform and stylish design. As it seeks to outperform competitors, Toyota said that its “impactful lines” are a distinguishing feature.
The redesigned “hammerhead” front-end design is among the most noticeable features. A full-length light setup is arranged over the back of the sleekly curved front and rear ends. According to Toyota, its “Urban Tech” design offers it a dominant presence at every angle.
The electric SUV is marginally larger than its popular Yaris Cross, measuring 4,285 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, and 1,640 mm in tall. Additionally, it has a longer wheelbase than the Yaris Cross, measuring 2,700 mm (+140 mm).
Dual 10.1-inch infotainment and 10.25-inch driver display screens with smartphone connection are included inside the electric SUV.
Suzuki’s e-Vitara electric SUV, which was launched last month, is built on the same chassis. As the two Japanese auto giants strengthen their partnership, it will be their first electric vehicle.
Toyota’s Land Cruiser EV will come with 49- and 61-kWh battery pack options, just as the e-Vitara. The latter generates 172 horsepower (128 kW), whereas the former will only have FWD and make 142 horsepower (106 kW). The larger battery in the AWD model produces 181 horsepower (135 kW).
While the FWD model’s Snow Mode facilitates mobility on snow-covered roads, the new AWD system (Suzuki’s ALLGRIP-e) features Trail Mode and Downhill Assist Control for increased traction.
With the larger battery pack, the electric SUV is anticipated to have a range of up to 250 miles, however Toyota did not disclose range numbers.
The 2025 Brussels Motor Show will be the official launch of the Toyota Land Cruiser EV. In Q3 2025, the UK will be the first European market to receive it. AutoCar estimates that pricing will be approximately $44,500 (£35,000).
