Apple Intelligence, a feature that uses AI to summarize notifications, was introduced with iOS 18. The feature compiles all of the notifications’ content into a single card that shows on the lock screen when you receive a lot of them from a single app. After reading the summary, you may either tap on the stack to view individual notifications or dismiss it.
The feature isn’t always precise, though. Sometimes it produces amusing results, while other times it contains obvious errors and does not adequately summarize the notifications’ text. You can turn off or modify notification summaries if you believe they are confusing people instead of helping.
On iPhone/iPad
Tap the Summarize Notifications tab after selecting Settings > Notifications. By selecting the Summarize Notifications option at the top, you may turn off AI-powered notification summaries for all apps. Alternatively, you can turn off notifications for individual apps.
On Mac
Select System Settings > Notifications by clicking on the Apple menu in the top left corner. Turn Summarize Notifications off after selecting the Summarize Notifications tab. You may turn off notification summaries for specific apps, just like you can in the iPhone/iPad settings.
Notification summaries for particular app categories, such news, productivity, utility, shopping, travel, and financial, cannot be turned off.
In January, Apple announced that it would release a software update to more clearly state that notification summaries are produced by artificial intelligence (AI) and may contain inaccuracies.
