Paramount+ will start streaming Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the third installment in the Paramount franchise based on SEGA’s video games, in the United States and Canada on February 18. An announcement regarding the movie’s availability in other international Paramount+ markets will be made later date.
Also available on Paramount+ are the first two movies, the spin-off series Knuckles, and a retro animated series that centers on the franchise’s mischievous hero.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the second highest-grossing video game film ever and the highest-grossing movie in the Sonic series with nearly $473 million worldwide, continues up right after Knuckles’ six-episode side quest and takes Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails on their most epic adventure to yet.
In the movie, the group gets back together to take on Shadow, a mystery hedgehog with abilities they have never seen before. Shadow is a new and powerful enemy. To stop Shadow and save the planet they now call home, team Sonic will need to form an unexpected partnership.
Keanu Reeves plays Shadow in the threequel, which is directed by Jeff Fowler, who has directed all three of the series’ movies. The cast also includes Jim Carrey, Ben Schwartz, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Idris Elba, Krysten Ritter, Natasha Rothwell, and Shemar Moore.
John Whittington and Pat Casey and Josh Miller wrote the script, which was based on a story by Casey & Miller. The movie is executive produced by Haruki Satomi, Shuji Utsumi, Yukio Sugino, Fowler, Tommy Gormley, and Tim Miller, and it is produced by Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, Toru Nakahara, and Hitoshi Okuno.
With the release of Sonic the Hedgehog in 2020, the Paramount series has exploded to a global box office gross of over $1.2 billion. The release date of Sonic the Hedgehog 4, the sequel, is set for March 19, 2027.
