Lady Gaga unveiled her dazzling new dance-pop track, “Abracadabra,” shortly after helping Bruno Mars perform a somber performance of “California Dreamin'” as part of an homage to Los Angeles….
When Gaga’s high-octane new single was unveiled through a MasterCard commercial, it was accompanied by an artistic music video that mostly used red, black, and white colors. Gaga declared at the beginning of the video, wearing a huge red hat with studs, “The category is: dance or die.” She then launched into a string of tight Parris Goebel-choreographed scenarios that evoke the hordes of dancers that frequently accompanied her during her Born This Way era.
The “Abracadabra” clip, which featured 40 dancers, Gaga’s signature facial dramatics, and her taste for stunning high couture, also brought back memories of her classic “Bad Romance” music video with its careful examination of the fusion of multiple artistic mediums.
Gaga has thus far unveiled three Mayhem tracks, the third of which is “Abracadabra.” She released the Mars-assisted single “Die With a Smile” last summer, which peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 this year and garnered Grammy nominations for best pop duo/group performance and song of the year. Mother Monster released “Disease,” a dark electro-pop hit that peaked at No. 27 on the Hot 100, two months later.
Gaga announced on January 27 that her most recent studio album, Mayhem, would be released on March 7. Even though the album will be Gaga’s first original full-length pop album since the Grammy-winning Chromatica in 2020, the “Shallow” singer hasn’t entirely stopped making music in the interim.
She and the late Tony Bennett won two Grammys for their joint album, Love for Sale, in 2021. Last year, she won the top Jazz Albums award with Harlequin, a soundtrack album based on her role in the box office-topping Joker: Folie à Deux from 2024, for which she received a Razzie nomination for worst actress.
Gaga has had a busy weekend. Along with Miley Cyrus and Bad Bunny, she will be the headliner at Saturday Night Live’s 50th Anniversary Concert on February 14 after closing FireAid on Thursday, January 30, with a brand-new song. Gaga will also be the headliner at Coachella for a second time in April.
