Sony, which has released the monetarily effective Venom and exceptionally critically successful Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, is prodding it has the next “seven or eight years” of its Marvel properties spread out, for the both films and TV.
In an interview with Variety, Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman Tony Vinciquerra and Sony Pictures Television chairman Mike Hopkins talked about Sony’s arrangements for its Spider-Man related properties in the future, and it shows up Sony has a really clear vision of where they’re going.
“We have the next seven or eight years laid out as to what we’re going to do with that asset, and that will not only be on the film side — it’ll be on the TV side,” said Vinciquerra. “Our television group will have its own set of characters from within that universe that we will seek to develop.”
As per Hopkins, the group on the TV side is “pretty far down the road in terms of working through which characters we think could be their own star of a series.”
“We’re developing a lot of Marvel-related content, and I think we’ll be out in the market very soon with something really, really big and transformational for us, because we’ve not done any shows with Marvel before, with Marvel IP,” said Hopkins. “So that’s a big piece of development that we’re onto… I think we aspire to have several shows in a universe that we create that can pollinate between each other, and to [be] working with a partner to make that happen.”
While it’s right now vague if Sony means to band together with a spilling service like Netflix or Hulu to encourage its Marvel appears, Hopkins apparently didn’t deny the Disney+ streaming service is additionally a potential name in the mix.
Sony has a few Spider-Man spinoff motion pictures being developed, including Jared Leto’s Morbius, which as of late released its first on-set photograph, just as Black Cat, Silver Sable, Kraven the Hunter, and Silk. There are two Marvel-Sony films set for 2020 releases, one of which is Morbius, and the is likely a sequel of Venom.
Over this, the widely praised animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is purportedly getting a sequel, and an all-female spinoff. Over this, Sony is apparently arranging at least one TV shows based off characters from Into the Spider-Verse.
