A Midwest city was listed in the top three, and a Chicago suburb made the list of the ten safest cities in America for 2024.
Naperville, Illinois, was listed as the eighth-safest city in the United States by MoneyGeek.
In order to calculate the cost of crime per capita, the ranking examined more than 300 cities with populations greater than 100,000 and examined them using FBI crime statistics.

The report showed that Thousand Oaks, California, had the lowest cost of crime per capita at $241, making it the safest city in the nation. Not far behind were Pembroke Pines, Florida, and Fishers, Indiana.
Carmel, Indiana, was the only additional Midwest city to rank in the top 10, however MoneyGeek pointed out that “2022 data was limited for cities in Florida, Illinois, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.”
Four Midwestern communities—Zionsville, Indiana, and Mason, Ohio—made the top 10 in a separate ranking for small cities in the United States.
