The Chicago area will see a taste of summer weather on Tuesday with afternoon peaks of 80 degrees or higher, according to the NBC 5 Storm Team. But there is also a chance of storms and rain.
The rest of the work week will see everyday chances for rain and isolated thundershowers or storms, according to NBC 5 Meteorologist Alicia Roman.
Here is a schedule of what to expect when.
Temperatures close to records
Roman states that 59 degrees is the typical high temperature for October 24.
However, according to Roman, by 5:30 a.m., several suburbs had already reached or surpassed that temperature, with Northbrook recording a temperature of 60 degrees.
Later on Tuesday, largely bright skies and highs in the upper 70s or possibly 80 degrees are predicted.
“Because we’ll have that sunshine most of the day, that’s why I think we’ll see temperatures very close to 80 this afternoon,” Roman continued.

It doesn’t happen all that often for Chicago to reach 80 degrees in October. Since 2017, Chicago has seen 80 degree days, with the typical last 80 degree day falling on October 5, according to Roman.
The record high temperature for October 24 is 83 degrees, achieved in 1963, according to the NBC 5 Storm Team. Chicago last had an 80 degree day on November 1, 1950.
‘Unsettled’ weather pattern moves in
Tuesday will be warm, but it will also be windy, according to forecast models. Roman claimed that sometimes there can be wind gusts as high as 35 mph. Additionally, about 4 p.m., clouds are anticipated to grow, creating the conditions for a “unsettled” weather pattern to roll in late Tuesday and into overnight, according to Roman.
Roman predicts that patchy showers will start to form after 10 p.m., particularly in the western counties of Chicago. More widespread rain is anticipated overnight, along with a few sporadic thundershowers until Wednesday morning, according to Roman.
Roman said that Wednesday afternoon will likely have some dry time before the rain returns in the evening. Some thundershowers may quickly pass across the area through the night and into Thursday morning before moving back in Thursday night, according to Roman.
Even though the rest of the work week will see warm temperatures, Roman said that there will still be daily possibilities for showers and storms over the weekend.
Temperatures are predicted to fall into the 40s by Halloween, according to Roman.
