A new Gemini side panel powered by AI is being tested by Google Calendar. It allows users to organize events, check their schedules, and look for event details in a conversational and rapid manner. Google Workspace Labs, the tech giant’s early access testing program, offers the feature.
Gemini can be accessed by selecting the “Ask Gemini” icon found in the upper right corner of your Google Calendar window. After that, you can either choose an existing prompt or create your own.
Google’s Calendar app is testing a new feature called the Gemini side panel.
The AI-powered solution seeks to simplify and expedite schedule management tasks, such as creating events, reviewing schedules, and retrieving event details.
The latest Workspace app to receive a Gemini side panel is Google Calendar, which is already accessible in Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Chat.
Gemini might advise you, for example, to “Find the next meeting” or “Add a lunch event” with someone.
The “More suggestions” option is available if you would like more recommendations.
Writing your own prompts, like “When is my next meeting with Emily?” is another option. Add a weekly workout every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 6 AM, or ask yourself, “How many meetings do I have on Monday?”
The feature’s concept is to use Gemini’s conversational skills to expedite tasks by eliminating the need to manually search or add things to your calendar.
Currently accessible in Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Chat, Google Calendar is the most recent Workspace app to receive a Gemini side panel. When the panel will be made available to more users is uncertain.

How to access the Gemini panel?
Users must click the “Ask Gemini” icon in the upper right corner of their Google Calendar window in order to access the Gemini side panel.
When you click on it, a list of suggested prompts and a space where you can enter your own prompt will appear.
One example of a suggested prompt is “Find the next meeting.” Additionally, you can use your own search terms, such as “When is my next meeting with Emily?” such as “How many meetings do I have on Monday?”
It simplifies the process of creating events.
Another goal of the Gemini side panel is to save you time by eliminating the need for manual calendar additions.
For example, you may instruct Gemini to “add a workout to my calendar every weekday at 6:00am” or “add lunch with my parents to my schedule at 11:00am Tuesday.”
Please be aware, though, that when you create an event, you will still need to manually invite people.
Currently, Google Workspace Labs is the only way to access Calendar’s Gemini side panel.
