Serial Entrepreneur Kemishia Minta, better known as Olori Trini, is the product of a Nigerian mom and Trinidadian father. Although she was born in America, she saw the need for diversity and culture, especially in the black space.
As a young adult, she faced an interesting hardship many women can relate to, almost marrying the wrong man. Calling off her wedding and not being supported by women exposed a need for community and one-ness within women.
According to one study, about 20% of engagements are called off before the wedding day. There are often automatic grounds to call off a wedding, such as domestic violence, disrespectful in-laws, or a clear sign that you and your partner won’t last through the relationship.
Drawing inspiration from her situation, Olori decided to curate a book called ‘Story for the gods,’ a collection of stories from different women worldwide who courageously chose to share their experiences.
Statistically, women experience depression at roughly twice the rate of men. Therefore, there is no better time to promote unity amongst women.
As a result of Olori’s undying passion for this subject matter, Social Tea, a social networking community for women worldwide, was born. The vision for Social Tea is to win together, whether that means helping a woman through a complicated divorce, through childbirth, or entrepreneurship. Social Tea isn’t about one black woman who decided to choose herself; it’s about every woman choosing herself.
