Describe the mood of your Debut EP in 3 words.
Powerful, seductive, and bad!
What is the story behind each song?
Every song I felt like a Baddie and wanted my listeners to feel the same. The stories are aspects of who I am.
How long did the EP take to put together?
It took me about 2 years to put it together.
I started listening to a lot of rap and drill music during the 2020 pandemic. During that time I completed my Textile Design degree at Central Saint Martins and in April of 2021 I wrote, recorded, and released my first song ‘Kama Sutra’.
Throughout my UAL degree, I worked as a bartender or cocktail waitress to make ends meet. In 2022 I worked at an elegant private club called Annabel’s located in Mayfair, London for almost a year. During that time I wrote the remaining songs for my debut EP.
In 2023 I released Tony Montana with an expressive visualiser produced by Projext Liquid and directed by Gareth Chan. I recorded and released the additional tracks for my debut EP ‘Bad Like Bena’ with Hot Money Studios.
Do you have a song that is special to you on the project, if so why?
I love all the songs on the project but I’ve definitely had ‘Sex Tape’ and ‘Andale’ on repeat more than the rest because they make me feel powerful and feminine with my sexuality as a woman.
What feeling would you want people to leave with after listening to the EP?
I want people who listen to my music to feel alluring, energized, and powerful.
What is next on the horizon for Bad Bena?
Next up I hope to connect more with my roots. I’d like to do more Jamaican dancehall and also reggaeton music. I also hope to travel the world more and learn new cultures.
Do you have plans for a music video?
Definitely! There are so many layers to Bad Bena to discover. I love performing. My first job ever was as a dancer which I hope to reconnect with. I also hope to do acting at some point.
Anything else you would like your fans to know about you?
Yes! I have a new merch store Called Badeez Merch. It’s super cute and I designed the pieces myself. I am also looking forward to re-launching my luxury vacation line called ‘Abenah González’. Stay tuned Badeez!
