Billboard revealed on March 16 local time that Jennie was the first solo artist to appear on its Top 200 Albums chart, which ranks the most popular albums in the US weekly.
The second best-selling album of the week in the US was Jennie’s first full-length solo album, “Ruby,” which debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 and No. 2 on the Billboard Top Album Sales chart.
The first full-length solo album by K-pop girl group BLACKPINK’s Jennie, “Ruby,” peaked at No. 7 on the U.S. Billboard main albums chart.
In the week ending March 13, “Ruby” sold 56,000 equivalent album units, according to Luminate (previously Nielsen Music). Over the course of the week, the album generated 39.93 million on-demand audio streams, which is comparable to 26,500 traditional album sales and 29,000 streaming equivalent album (SEA) units. In its first week of release, the album also sold 500 track equivalent album (TEA) units.
In a chart preview that was made public on Sunday (U.S. time), Billboard announced the news, making Jennie the third member of the band to make it into the top 10 of the Billboard 200 as a solo artist, after Rose and Lisa.
According to equivalent album units, which include physical album sales, track equivalent albums, and streaming equivalent albums, the Billboard 200 charts the top albums of the week in the US.
26,500 of the 56,000 album units sold for “Ruby” came from physical album sales.
In 2022, BLACKPINK’s second full-length album, “Born Pink,” made them the first K-pop girl group to reach the top of the Billboard 200. “The Album,” the group’s debut full-length album, peaked at No. 2.
Members of BLACKPINK have also been successful as solo artists; Lisa peaked at No. 7 with “Alter Ego,” and Rose peaked at No. 3 with “rosie.”
“Inspired by Shakespeare’s play ‘As You Like It,'” Ruby “carries themes of birth, love, faith and pinnacle.”
“Like Jennie,” “Mantra,” “Love Hangover,” “ExtraL,” “Seoul City,” “Starlight,” and “twin” are among the 15 tracks on it.
According to a chart preview published on Sunday, she is the third member of Blackpink to reach the top 10 on the chart, after Rose and Lisa. With “Rosie,” Rose came in third place, and Lisa came in No. 7 with “Alter Ego.”
The album debuted at No. 3, the highest position for a K-pop solo female singer, in the UK’s Official Albums Top 100. The album’s singles “like Jennie,” “Handlebars (featuring Dua Lipa),” and “ExtraL (featuring Doechii)” all made the Singles Top 100, peaking at No. 36, No. 41, and No. 66, respectively.
Incheon, Korea hosted Jennie’s first solo stand-alone show, “The Ruby Experience,” on Saturday. Inspirationed by Shakespeare’s comedy ‘As You Like It,’ the album ‘Ruby’ explores themes of love, faith, and peak performance. It features the pre-released songs “Mantra,” “Love Hangover,” and “ExtraL” in addition to the title track “Like JENNIE.”
The number of streams converted to album sales (SEA), the number of digital downloads converted to album sales (TEA), and traditional album sales from physical albums are all combined to determine “Billboard 200” album units.
During this chart counting period, “Ruby” sold 56,000 copies of the album. This week’s ‘Top Album Sales’ chart showed that physical album sales came in at No. 2 with 26,500 copies sold, followed by SEA with 29,000 and TEA with 500.
In 2022, BLACKPINK became the first K-pop girl group to debut at the top of the Billboard 200 charts with their second studio album, “BORN PINK.” ‘The Album’, their debut studio album, peaked at No. 2.
“This album captures not the glamorous and impressive side of me, but rather the honest version of myself, stumbling as I am,” Jennie said during her first solo concert on the 15th at Inspire Arena in Incheon Yeongjongdo. She also added, “Everything feels unfamiliar, and it seems like I am starting anew.”
