Digital marketing has blown up in the last 10 years with the rise of social media platforms like Instagram, Snapchat and YouTube. Nowadays it seems you can’t move two steps without being bombarded by a slurry of ads. Advertising makes the modern world go round and that is what the newest entrepreneurs are tapping into.
It may seem that internet marketing is a thoroughly saturated industry but young Utkarsh Piyush has proven otherwise. At just 17 years of age he has managed to build his company, thegurumedia, from the ground up.
As any student will tell you, every company today is looking to create an online presence. Just look at any job scouting website! Most young people discover brands through their social media and traditional print, radio and television advertising has been on a steady decline since the noughties. Piyush has capitalised on this trend to become the youngest media consultant in India today.
Teens are spending an average of 9 hours a day in front of screens, most of them whiling away their time on mindless entertainment. Piyush, however, is no ordinary teen. He took the addictive apps and turned them into a business opportunity in the blink of an eye.
Take a gander on Piyush’s Instagram page and you’ll find glowing reviews from many satisfied customers. Piyush’s list of services include website creation, Instagram management, graphic design, YouTube marketing, Google knowledge graphs and even online press releases. So the next time you see an ad or an article – remember that it may have been handled by a 17 year old Public Relations agent!
The miniature mogul is still pursuing his studies and is currently in 12th standard. It seems success has not hindered his foresight. Most students would jump at the opportunity to drop out of school to pursue a life of power and prosperity; then again, Piyush is not like most teenagers. He managed to combine his tech savvy mind with his entrepreneurial ambitions astonishingly early on in life. What other teenager could do that?
Piyush started his brand from the city of Muzaffarpur in Bihar. The area is a recipient of the Backwards Regions Grant Fund (BRGF) and has had a tumultuous economy. However, this new business man ( or, in Piyush’s case – business boy!) has risen above the confines of his situation in spectacular fashion. His is a rags to riches story in the making and we all have the pleasure of watching it unfold before our very eyes.
So what can we learn from Utkarsh Piyush, India’s youngest entrepreneur? Well firstly, we can learn that you are never too young to start chasing your ambitions. Secondly, never let your surroundings deter you. Piyush has proved that the market is a meritocracy – the harder we work, the more successful we are. Lastly, remember what Piyush tells his admiring followers:
All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.
