Chinese blockbuster Ne Zha 2 has surpassed Inside Out 2 to become the highest-grossing animated movie of all time globally, continuing its incredible run. On the worldwide chart, it is currently ranked as the eighth-best film overall.

With $1.7 billion from the domestic market alone, Ne Zha 2 surpassed Inside Out 2’s $1.699 billion worldwide on Wednesday (when you include the markets that released last weekend, that comes to approximately $1.71 billion). According to Maoyan, NZ2 is trading at RMB 12.47B ($1.72B) in China as of Thursday’s business closing.
Ne Zha 2, which was released in January, has been on a record-breaking run in China. The animated sequel made history earlier this month by becoming the first film to gross over $1 billion in a single market. The film has not yet been released abroad and is only shown in mainland China. Additionally, it is the first non-Hollywood film to sell over $1 billion worth of tickets. Additionally, it may now add “Top-Grossing Animated Movie” to its expanding record list.
Since its January 29 release, Ne Zha 2 has earned ¥12.47 billion ($1.72 billion USD) at the Chinese box office. This puts Ne Zha 2 at number eight on the list of all-time highest-grossing films, surpassing not only the previous animated box office winner Inside Out 2, but also popular films like Top Gun: Maverick, Jurassic World, and The Avengers. The animated movie, which is a sequel to Ne Zha from 2019, is now expected to make $2.08 billion in China. It would surpass Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avengers: Infinity War to take the fifth spot on the most-grossing list.
