This week, snow is once again predicted for Chicago, according to the NBC 5 Storm Team. A “clipper system” is expected to move into the area overnight Monday and into Tuesday, bringing with it a wintry mixture of rain, snow, and slush in some areas.
Alicia Roman, the meteorologist for NBC 5, predicts that Monday will mostly stay cloudy and dry with seasonal temperatures in the 30s and 40s. But around midnight, according to Roman, a system coming in from the Northwest will cause precipitation and slushy accumulations.
“A clipper system moves in tonight, bringing us a rain-snow mix,” Roman stated. According to Roman, counties to the north and west are predicted to see “some slushy, wet snow, with minor accumulation possible,” while counties to the south will see rain.
A National Weather Service alert states that some slick spots may form overnight north and/or near I-80. According to forecast models, precipitation is predicted to last until early Tuesday afternoon. This could cause traffic jams during Tuesday morning commutes as the roads may remain slick and slushy.
Roman stated that accumulations of up to one inch could occur by Tuesday night due to the developing system. According to forecast models, Woodstock could see 0.9 inches of snowfall, O’Hare International Airport could see 0.8 inches, and DuPage County could see 0.7 inches, according to the NBC 5 Storm Team.
According to Roman, the weather turns progressively warmer by the middle of the week, reaching the mid-50s. Drier conditions also arrive by midweek.
