An Alt-Pop dreamy melodic vibe was released this month by stunning ingenue artist Anjalts. And if you’re scratching your head on how to say her name, it’s easy since I learned it from her indie team over at IXO Music pronounces it like “on-jolts.” So if Amazon Alexa can get it right, that’s electrifying!
It’s not an everyday occurrence to discover an artist who writes, produces, and performs every track. Anjalts has released approximately 13 songs from her forthcoming 15-song album project set to drop in mid-February. In addition, two bonus tracks got added on, and I’m excited to get one of these limited-edition vinyl before they are gone or settle for a CD! Her music is comforting, well-defined, and impromptu, with an intuitive songwriting style that I find imaginatively appealing.
With that said, let’s dive deeper into this new song ‘Vanish.’ First off, the inspiration of the song reveals a crazy side effect caused by social media when you’re around someone who overshares all the time without privacy boundaries. In other words, someone who doesn’t know when to turn off the phone and spend quality time with a love partner or just hang out with friends.
As a music writer, what I found to be very refreshing about Anjalts music is her eclectic approach to covering interesting situations in her generation; that was never an issue before when there was only AOL 🙂
Yes, I am showing my age, but with wiser eyes. The ambiance and overall mood of ‘Vanish’ come in like a cinematic opening of a mystery movie about to unfold. A subtle downbeat resounds the emptiness felt as Anjalts sings the first line:
I don’t know where to go from here
I don’t know what to do for you
You wanna live your life this way
What more can I could do or say
The lyrics anticipate a feeling that one person is trying to make time and memories together more natural while the other person is too busy tik-toking all over the date. In the next verse of the song:
Tik Tok, your love
TikTok your life
If I could find a way
I’d reach out to you
In this way
This part resonates with the core meaning behind the song, in my opinion. Where one person is fading away slowly but still hangs on to hope, trying to reach out to them on social media to say what’s happening here and why they can’t enjoy the experience in the moment rather than the fantasy on social media- is the big question.
It’s like ghosting someone on the phone, but that action is deliberate compared to a person who is unaware of their addiction to the illusions of social media and just starts vanishing in the allure. It’s that change-up in the mind of forgetting to balance the real people who are there for them and who will also disappear from your life if you don’t pay attention to what’s real.
There is a part in the song where Anjalts ethereal voice calls out and in my headphones that sent chills – it’s hauntingly inspiring. I started to remember when my girl posted pics during our dinner and more pics of the dessert cake instead of talking to me and filming her video for YouTube about the restaurant we went to for our date. It’s insane how much I did excuse that behavior because I felt it was important to her and let me not blow that inspiration for her. Reality check says No, it’s not ok to diss the people you love and share everything on social media, especially when they are spending time with you. Some things need privacy and an allowance for the experience to happen naturally without cameras. It’s creating a genuine memory in the heart first and not in the eyes of others. Truth be told, on any day, it can all vanish.
This song cuts right through in the most elegant & subtle songwriting style that I haven’t heard in a long time. Listening to Anjalts ‘Vanish’ resets an alternative focus to seek out something better, someone who sees you for who you truly are and sends you those calming vibes that surround you, especially when you decide to value yourself more.
Then the song ends. And that’s the only hang-up I had with this song – it’s too short! I wanted to hear more of that angelic voice in my ear, and I hope to see a music vid too. Watching out for that one and the album.
