Netflix’s Heartstopper season 3 will return to the small screen in fall 2024, perfect timing for the leaf-in-the-wind comic flourishes and cozy vibe of the young adult series overall.
The adorable show has also added some cast members ahead of its third season, which will feature events based on Alice Osman’s five-book graphic novel series. Osman previously spoke about the more serious themes that will continue in the next episodes of Heartstopper.

Who will be appearing in Heartstopper season 3?
Nick Nelson (Kit Connor) and Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) will return in season 3, along with Yasmin Finney, William Gao, Corinna Brown, Kizzy Edgell and Toby Donovan. The first photos hinted that the star couple and other characters will return in season 3.
New faces this season include Darragh Hand as Michael Holden, a character from Osman’s Solitaire books. Holden also appears in the Heartstopper books. Osman said in posting the news on Instagram that Hand “perfectly complimented Jenny Walser’s Tori Spring.” In Netflix’s announcement video, Walther hinted that Tori will find new friends and gain greater insight into her world and how Charlie’s conflicts have affected her.
At the end of April, the streamer also announced the addition of Jonathan Bailey (Fellow Travelers, Bridgerton), Hayley Atwell (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1, Captain America: The First Avenger), and Eddie Marsan (Back to Black, Ray Donovan).
Netflix announced on Instagram in July that Oliver Spring would also make a brief appearance in Season 3. The character, played by Jensen Kraden, is Charlie and Tori Spring’s younger cousin.
Bailey will make a cameo as Jack Maddox, an Instagram-famous classicist and celebrity who has a crush on Charlie in the book. Hayley Atwell will play Nick’s aunt Diane, who has harsh words for Nick’s relationship during a holiday to Menorca. Marsan will play Charlie’s therapist, Geoff.
Olivia Colman, who previously played Nick’s mother, will unfortunately not be reprising her role in Season 3.
What is Heartstopper Season 3?
“Charlie would like to tell Nick that he loves him. Nick also has something important to say to Charlie. As the summer holiday ends and the months race on, the friends begin to realize that the school year will come with both its joys and its challenges,” the official logline reads. “As they learn more about each other and their relationships, plan social events and parties and start thinking about university choices, everyone must learn to lean on those they love when life doesn’t go to plan.”
With the introduction of Season 3, show creator and graphic novelist Alice Oseman summed up the shift in themes and seasons.
“Season 2 ended with Nick beginning to understand the extent of Charlie’s mental health issues, and it’s this that will drive the story through Season 3,” series creator Alice Oseman Oseman told Netflix’s Tudum. “While Heartstopper will always celebrate the joyful and point towards hope, I’m really excited that we are allowing the tone of the show to mature alongside our beloved characters growing up. Mental health, sex, university ambitions, and more: Nick, Charlie, and the Heartstopper teens are getting older, learning more about themselves and each other, and experiencing new desires, new fears, and new joys as they approach adulthood.”
