With the year 2020 being tremendously eventful due to COVID-19, many musician’s lives in turn became uneventful. Unable to perform at concerts, artists could not connect with their fans in person. Yung Gecko saw these coronavirus closures as an opportunity to begin releasing music, in which he released his first song “Fake Friends” in March. This song has gained over 700,000 total streams across all platforms and its success is thanks to social media. With everyone being locked at home on their phones and electronic devices, apps like Instagram and TikTok are perfect services in which people are able to discover new content and music they enjoy.
Following the success of his first song, he released “Quiet Thots” during the summer which amassed over 600,000 total streams and is continuing to grow. After releasing these 2 successful singles, Yung Gecko decided he would begin posting music more often and since then has put out 2 more projects, “Time” in November and “Spain” in December. Both of these
singles have almost reached 1 million streams each, and Yung Gecko believes that they are his best works of 2020. With such a successful debut for Yung Gecko, his plans for the coming years are to continue releasing singles, and possibly an album with his fanbase continuing to grow at such a high rate.
