IIT Madras researchers have made a substantial advancement in their knowledge of how organs communicate with one another inside the human body.
Their ground-breaking computer method, known as MultiCens (Multilayer/Multi-tissue network Centrality measurements), has provided important new insights into the operation of multicellular life by shedding new light on the complex relationships between the genes responsible for inter-organ communication.
Even while the molecular underpinnings of such communication have been studied for some time, there hasn’t been a thorough genome-wide analysis to pinpoint the genes and biomolecules in charge of tissue-to-tissue signaling.
Professor Manikandan Narayanan, also from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, led the group in creating MultiCens as a solution to these problems. The technique makes use of powerful network science algorithms to categorically identify important genes in a single tissue and across numerous tissues.
Building a user-friendly web interface for MultiCens as well as experimentally testing its predictions are ongoing tasks. These initiatives are anticipated to result in a more thorough understanding of the ICN and its essential function in general health and wellbeing.
Their ground-breaking MultiCens methodology promises to transform the study of diseases, enabling targeted treatments and encouraging a better comprehension of human biology.
