Four Apple apps—Phone, Preview, Journal, and Games—will be pre-installed on all compatible iPad models with the next iPadOS 26 update.
We give a summary of each of these apps below.
Currently in developer beta, iPadOS 26 is expected to be made accessible to the general public in September.
Phone
With iOS 26, Apple brought the Phone app to the iPad, adding additional features like Hold Assist, Call Screening, and Live Translation. By syncing with your iPhone, you can use your iPad to check recent phone calls, listen to voicemails, make and receive calls over Wi-Fi, and more.
Preview
The Preview app, a mainstay on the Mac, is now accessible on the iPad as well, giving you an integrated tool for editing and annotating photos and PDFs. Another option is to make a blank page and write and draw on it with an Apple Pencil.
Journal
With iOS 17, Apple released a Journal app for the iPhone, which is now accessible on the iPad as well. Among other things, you can use this app to put up your everyday ideas and add drawings, handwriting, photos, videos, and audio recordings.
Games
Discover App Store and Apple Arcade games, as well as in-game events, with the brand-new Games app on iPad, iPhone, and Mac.
