The famous clownfish wallpaper that Apple included with the original iPhone and last upgraded in 2022 with iOS 16 is featured as a new asset in the second iOS 26 beta, which was just made public today. Today’s arrival is noteworthy, though, because the new wallpaper has a resolution that no other smartphone has at the moment, strongly suggesting a brand-new gadget, such as the anticipated iPhone 17 Air.
In 3x retina mode, the new clownfish wallpaper assets correspond to 1260 x 2736 pixels on a device with a screen resolution of 420 x 912 pixels. Those two devices may coexist peacefully with that resolution, which is higher than the iPhone 16 Pro and lower than the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Of course, there are rumors that the iPhone 17 Air will have a completely different design that emphasizes curb appeal, notably a very thin design. According to earlier sources, the resolution would be 1260 x 2740, which is extremely similar to the resolution of the iOS 26 developer beta 2 clownfish assets.
According to reports, the 17 Air’s actual display is 6.6 inches, which puts it squarely between the current iPhone 16 Pro (6.27 inches) and iPhone 16 Pro Max (6.8 inches). A 120Hz-capable ProMotion display is also anticipated to be a feature of the iPhone 17 Air, further setting it apart from the baseline models like the iPhone 16e.
The future iPhone 17 Air is contrasted with the current iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max in the accompanying mockup. As you can see, its screen resolution falls exactly in the middle of each device. However, since Apple is going for a sleek appearance, it will be fascinating to see how much it resembles the smaller 16 Pro.
