Moana is finally returning home after venturing out to the movie theaters! Disney+ now offers Moana 2! Moana 2’s return to its old home is apt, given the Disney sequel was originally meant to be a Disney+ series that would have gone directly to streaming. Together with her old friend Maui and an exciting new sailing crew, the Polynesian princess embarks on a brand-new maritime adventure in the second Moana film. Both Dwayne Johnson and Auli’i Cravalho return in this follow-up, but Cravalho has moved on to allow a new leading actress to play the title in the 2026 live-action Moana remake. But Johnson will be back as Maui.
This week marked the official release of the animated film on Disney+, which centers on the reunion of the iconic characters Moana and Maui for a brand-new ocean adventure.

Moana 2 Streaming date:
Disney+ debuted Moana 2 on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. At 3:01 am PT for East Coast viewers and 12:01 am PT for West Coast viewers, the Moana sequel was made accessible for streaming on Disney+.

When was ‘Moana 2’ released in theatres?
Following a star-studded premiere in Hawaii last year, “Moana 2” debuted in theaters on November 27.
Johnson spoke with ABC News on the film’s personal significance to him during the Hawaii premiere.
Johnson stated, “Moana is legacy, Moana is soul, Moana is just in the DNA,” at the time.
“Maui is determined. I’m determined,” he continued. “Maui is a lover of language… I enjoy that part too about what I do.”
He added, “Maui had a tough background, and a tough upbringing very early, for me too here in Hawaii. And it’s represented a lot of struggle here.”
What is ‘Moana 2’ about?
Moana, the daughter of Tui, the chief of Motunui Island, and Maui, a shapeshifting demigod, are reunited in “Moana 2” as she embarks on a journey across Oceania following a call from her ancestors.

Maui and Moana embark on an oceanic journey in the first “Moana” movie in order to recover the stolen heart stone of Te Fiti, the goddess of nature and a living island.
