With version 3.3 of the app, Google Home’s Member access feature is now being publicly available. Sharing a device or a whole smart home with someone is made simpler by this feature. By giving them the new Member role, users can invite friends, roommates, and family members, including children.
Google’s most recent Nest community update states that this feature, which was previously only accessible to Google Home users who were registered in the public preview program, is now being made publicly available.
Google Home users can choose how much access they wish to grant someone by using the member role. For example, you can grant or withdraw access to fully control your home automations and devices, as well as toggle permissions to examine device and home history.
Additionally, children under the age of 13 can now have limited access to your smart home. They will have the ability to unlock doors, play music, and control lights. The child needs to be added as a Member and a part of your Google Family Group in order to enable this. By default, child accounts do not have the ability to view Activity or change Settings.
Everybody else’s access and privileges can be changed in your Google Home app. Partners and other people you wish to co-manage your house can be granted “Admin” access. You can add people as “Members” who should only have restricted access, and you can further specify whether or not they should have any access to Activity or Settings.
Choose your home and go to Settings > Household & access > Add > Home member to manage Admin access or add someone as a Member on your Google Home app.
