“Opportunity is everywhere” is a phrase entrepreneur Amanda Moss likes to use at least once a day.
The mother of six single handedly runs her Lifestyle magazine in two countries,as well as managing her independent public relations clients around the world, She believes her success is down to an unwavering attitude of self belief and success and that positive outcomes can come out of the bleakest of events..
Take the pandemic. As Amanda saw her advertising revenue come crashing down in 2020 as lockdowns became the norm, Amanda hopped on a flight to Cyprus, a country she always felt a spiritual connection to, and launched a Lifestyle magazine there.
“I knew I had no competition there, “ she says, “And I thought if there’s going to be an international lockdown, I may as well do it in the sunshine.”
Amanda has defied critics that print media is dead. “Far from it,” she enthuses, “People are switching off to digital ads and pop ups as they’re irritating and don’t have any impact as people just swipe them off screen. With print media you can’t get away from the message.” Billboard sales are booming.
And that’s why her advertising strategies work. With 40,000 social media followers across her platforms as well as a print magazine, Amanda is a top industry expert for helping businesses raise their profile by telling them “I can make you famous.”
“I never work with a client who’s product or service I don’t believe in myself, “ she says. “Their business becomes my business and I put all my attention into it whatever time of day or night. ”
Amanda’s hard work ethic started at 13 when she landed a weekend job in a retail store. She turned down a place at university to take a trainee reporter’s job in a local newspaper.
“I basically walked into the office in my school uniform and asked for a job as I always wanted to be a journalist,” Amanda says, “But I wasn’t prepared to take unpaid work experience, I wanted a job for real.”
The editor was so impressed with her assertiveness he offered her a position on the spot and as soon as she left school her career in journalism began.
She qualified as a journalist at 21 when most of her friends were coming out of university straddled with debt and became the youngest reporter on a national tabloid newspaper in the UK, freelancing for many household name newspapers as well as a computer video games magazine.
It was this magazine which gave her the television break she desired when she was asked to be a researcher on a top Saturday morning kids television show on ITV
Her ambition and confidence ensured she climbed up the ranks in TV, from scriptwriter to promotions producer working for many high profile programmes, all the while freelancing for newspapers and magazines.
Amanda has been made redundant four times throughout her career, and each time opened a door to even greater opportunities.
After the final time she was made redundant in 2008 she realised with 5 small children and pregnant with her sixth, that she didn’t want to work for anyone else and went onto fulfil a dream of running her own Lifestyle magazine which went onto win awards and became the top free magazine for the city of Liverpool and still prints today.
Many of her advertisers asked her for advice to promote themselves and Amanda took this as an opportunity to launch AmandamossPR.
Alongside this, she has created Liverpool Fashion Week, the Liverpool Lifestyle Awards and the UK Positive Awards with a Lifestyle FashionShow in Los Angeles and one planned for Cyprus in 2022.
“We really are limitless beings” Amanda says, and if you want it, it’s there for the taking. I can make you famous. And I can ensure you love your lifestyle.”
