American tiktok star Ryan Shakes has given a health update to his fans after revealing last year that he was diagnosed with Cholinergic Urticaria, a rare skin condition that when body temperature elevates uncontrollable hives will break out caused from blocked sweat glands. In a recent Instagram post, the 22-year-old was seen in the video eating outside in good spirits while rocking a grey Balenciaga gaffer hoodie, indicating that his recovery is progressing well.
Shakes first spoke publicly about his diagnosis in November 2023, when he revealed that he was experiencing painful “pins and needles” all over his body that affected normal day to day activities. He also shared that he started doing sweat therapy exercises to regain mobility, but that he still has it.
Late last year, Shakes announced that he would be taking a break from videos due to his condition.
Cholinergic Urticaria is a rare illness that affects the body and is characterised by tiny red papular hives that often feel like painful stinging. Symptoms can include inability to exercise, inability to show any sort of emotion, inability to eat spicy foods, difficulty with sweating and a dysfunction autonomic nervous system. There is medication available to treat it like antihistamines, although there is no known cure.
Ryan’s update on his path to recovery is sure to come as a relief to his fans, who have been eagerly following his progress since his diagnosis.
