A portion of Friday morning saw Chicago O’Hare International Airport issue a ground stop because of snow and ice.
As powerful winter storms get ready to produce blizzard conditions, flooding rain, and tornadoes, more than 1,900 flights have been canceled nationwide on Friday.
Six states, from Nebraska to Wisconsin, including the major cities of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Des Moines, Iowa, are under a blizzard warning. There could be anywhere from six to twelve inches of snowfall, accompanied by strong winds that could cause a whiteout.
At O’Hare International Airport, 779 flights had been canceled as of 11 a.m. on Friday, while 276 flights had been canceled at Midway International Airport.
There are more than 320 delayed flights from Chicago.
The airport stated: O’Hare airlines have proactively canceled over 650 flights due to the ongoing winter storm in Chicago. The delays are estimated to be 30 minutes on average.
