Snapchat said on Thursday that it is launching a suite of new tools and features to facilitate content creation and sharing on its platform as it continues to compete with Instagram and TikTok. Among other things, the social network is introducing a “Timeline Editor” feature, a new method for turning saved Memories into videos, the capability to automatically save Stories to profiles, and more.
Snapchat says that its new Timeline Editor would make it easier for producers to edit videos on the app. Clips can be easily trimmed, moved, or rearranged with the Timeline Editor, which allows you to watch your video in a chronological layout. After your sequence is ready, you can utilize other creative tools, add Lenses, and add music from the Sounds library.
Users may no longer need to utilize third-party editing platforms like CapCut to edit basic videos before posting them on Snapchat thanks to the technology.
Additionally, creators will have access to a brand-new “Create a Video” template that allows them to create a custom compilation video by selecting a few Memories, picking a music from Snapchat’s Sounds library, and selecting their preferred template. The iOS feature is being rolled out globally.
In the near future, users will now have the option to automatically save their public Stories to their profile so that others can view the content again. According to Snapchat, the feature helps content creators preserve their work and compile a collection of their best memories.
The transitory aspect of Stories is, of course, somewhat undermined by this feature, but it might be helpful for those who wish to save their Stories.
Additionally, Snapchat is providing creators with additional data about the performance of their content so they may improve the optimization of their posts.
In order to better understand how many of their audience members are returning, creators will be able to monitor how many people watched their public content for at least 12 days throughout the previous month. Additionally, they will be able to examine their total view time across all content, as well as which of their public Stories and Spotlight posts have gotten the most views over the last 28 days.
Additionally, by viewing views according to the source—which may include the Discover For You page, Following, Spotlight, Search, Chat, and Profile—creators will gain insight into the sources of their traffic. Finally, users will see the average time spent viewing their Spotlight posts as well as the average percentage of their posts that viewers completed seeing.
