Timothée Chalamet will make his musical guest debut when “Saturday Night Live” resumes its historic 50th season in January.
The NBC sketch comedy show revealed its post-holiday host lineup on Friday: Chalamet, in his third hosting appearance, on January 25 and Dave Chappelle on January 18 with musical guest GloRilla. Before the 2025 Grammy Awards on February 2, Chappelle and GloRilla will be on stage. They are both nominated for best comedy album for “Dave Chappelle: The Dreamer” and best rap performance and best rap song for “Yeah Glo!”
Chalamet and GloRilla will be making their first appearances as musical guests on the evening. Chalamet has previously hosted in November 2023 and December 2020. A month after the biography “A Complete Unknown” hit theaters, he makes his dual appearance as presenter and musical guest. His portrayal of the famous Bob Dylan received positive reviews.
The first “SNL” performances after the last two presidential elections were part of Chappelle’s previous three hosting stints in November 2016, 2020, and 2022. This is his fourth appearance. Two days prior to President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration for a second term, this one takes place.
“SNL’s” 50th anniversary primetime special airs on Sunday, February 16, following the January 18 and 25 shows. After that, the show will resume Saturdays on March 1.
Chalamet, who has starred in “Wonka,” the “Dune” movies, and “Call Me By Your Name,” is also a trained singer. His actual voice can be heard in the Dylan biopic and the 2023 Roald Dahl-inspired musical prequel. In order to perfect his interpretation of Dylan and his musical approach, he trained with a harmonica coach for five years before to the part.
“It was important for me to sing and play live. Because if I can actually do it, why should there be an element of artifice here?” Chalamet said in a movie preview released by Searchlight Pictures in November. “And I’m proud that we took that leap.”
According to producer Fred Berger, Chalamet sang and played guitar and harmonica during 40 live performances during the filming process.
