Vani Jayaram, a legendary vocalist, passed away on February 4 and was cremated today with all due formalities. At her home in Chennai yesterday afternoon, the 78-year-old vocalist passed away from injuries to her forehead. The authorities, according to reports, have filed a police complaint.
According to reports, Vani Jayaram did not answer the door when her housekeeper arrived yesterday around midday because she was living alone in Nungambakkam, Chennai. They later entered the home with the assistance of the singer’s sister, who had a spare key, and discovered the singer lying on the floor hurt.
The singer’s passing has caused great sorrow in the Indian film and music industries, and everyone from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Chief Minister MK Stalin has expressed their sympathies. Kamal Haasan, Harris Jayaraj, Ilaiyaraaja, KS Chitra, and Nithyasree Mahadevan, all members of the film community, also expressed their sorrow.
More than 10,000 songs have been performed by Vani Jayaram, who recently celebrated 50 years in the music business. The veteran vocalist was given the Padma Bhushan on January 25, but she passed away before getting her hands on the national honour.
