Cricket is a very unique game. Perhaps this is the only game in the world, in which there are so many figures that every minute you enter your name in some record book while playing a match. But there is such a record, in which it has considered impossible not to record the name. This record is the same bowler’s account of all 10 wickets of another team in an innings. This record is so difficult that to date only 2 bowlers in Test cricket have been successful in doing so. But would you believe that the act of taking all 10 wickets in the innings has also been done by giving 0 runs in cricket?
All 10 wickets have been taken without scoring 25 times
Till today, the practice of taking all 10 wickets without giving 25 runs has been done. Although these records have recorded in minor cricket itself, experts include them in the authorized records. The first act done in 1867 by A.D. A bowler named Dartnell played for Broad Green Club against Thronton Heath Club in South London. The last time he did this was in 1998–99 by David Morton, playing for Bayside Mudies in Brisbane, Australia, against the Ranatungaz team. Morton was preceded by a schoolgirl, Emma Liddell, bowling against the West in 1995–96 in East Penrith, Sydney. The young bowler girl later played international cricket for Australia and took 12 wickets in 3 Tests and 32 wickets while playing 33 ODIs.
All wickets were bowled by Jennings on 6 May 1923
All the wickets for 0 runs in the innings may have performed 25 times. But, the most special performance of these was on 6 May 1923 by Jennings Tune while playing for the Cliff Club in the Howden and District Cricket League of Yorkshire. Tune took all 10 wickets for 0 against the Easterington team. The special thing was that Tune bowed out all 10 batsmen and sent them back to the pavilion. This is the only time in cricket history when a bowler bowled all 10 wickets.
In Test cricket, Kumble and Laker have taken 10 wickets in an innings
If you talk about Test cricket, then all 10 wickets have been taken in 2 innings. For the first time, England off-spinner Jim Laker took all 10 wickets for 53 runs in the second innings of the Manchester Test against Australia in July 1956. The second time India leg spinner Anil Kumble scored 74 in the Delhi Test against Pakistan in 1998-99. Had given all 10 wickets in his name. The special thing of Jim Laker’s record was that he took 9 wickets for 37 runs in the first innings of the same Test and if his fellow south spinner Tony Lock had not taken 1 wicket then he probably took all 10 wickets in that innings too. Giving Laker’s performance of 19 wickets for 90 runs is the best bowling performance in Test cricket till date, which will rarely be broken.
