X is increasing awareness of Communities, a feature that lets X users interact and have conversations about a certain topic, much like Reddit does. The app’s homepage now features links to browse popular Communities in addition to your For You feed and other Lists. These separate timelines can now be filtered to display simply your contributions and responses within the community, or you can tweak them based on what’s Trending, New, or Popular.
If you want to sort by popularity, you may now do so by day, week, month, year, or all-time. This set of options is similar to what Reddit offers.
A separate, moderated feed where people can post about a certain topic is called a community. It is comparable to Reddit subreddits. In addition to the For You and Subscriptions sections, you will receive a separate feed when you join a community.
Communities’ posts could previously be sorted by Trending, Most Recent, and Most Liked, which provided comparable views. However, this feature lacked the level of detail that is currently available when comparing well-liked posts by a specific time period.
Additionally, in the previous edition, there was no way to rapidly view your own posts and replies.
According to a post by an X engineer revealing the latest version of the Communities tabs feature, users can first access the changes on the updated iOS app.
The new functionality is still being worked on by the company for Android and the web.
The product update is the most recent in X’s larger initiatives to redesign the Communities feature and increase X’s attractiveness to users who prefer more targeted conversations. By making a user’s Community posts and responses accessible to their followers and other users on X, the business further integrated Community postings across X last month. Additionally, X allowed anyone to respond to a Community post in order to increase adoption.
The purpose of X Communities is not limited to increasing the number of users on X. In addition to training models at X owner Elon Musk’s AI startup, xAI, they might also be able to assist the company with its AI efforts by setting up subject discussion boards whose data can be shared with companies wishing to train their AI models.
The iOS app currently has the update, and Android and the web are anticipated to follow shortly. The following criteria can now be used to sort community posts:
- Popular
- New
- By popularity (per day, week, month, year, all time)
- My posts in this community
- My replies in this community
Building communities may increase the platform’s attractiveness to users who wish to participate in more specialized conversations.
