If 2024 is known for anything, it will be Disney’s triumphant comeback at the box office.
With three of the top five films in Inside Out 2 ($652.9M), the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time Deadpool & Wolverine ($636.7M), and Moana 2 ($342M), the Mouse House made a massive comeback this year, becoming the only motion picture studio to surpass the $2 billion threshold after a run of events films that weren’t events in 2023, such as Pixar’s Elemental, The Marvels, The Haunted Mansion, and Wish. And with the release of Mufasa this Friday, which is expected to gross $50 million at the box office, that amount will only increase. Additionally, Searchlight’s Bob Dylan film A Complete Unknown, which was directed by James Mangold, will be released on Christmas Day.
Disney’s domestic total includes the profits from its Searchlight and 20th Century Studios labels.
Disney has exceeded $2 billion twice since 2019, the previous time being in 2022. Disney has made over $2 billion at the box office in the United States and Canada for the seventh time since 2010.
Inside Out 2 by Pixar is the highest-grossing animated film ever released in the United States and the eleventh highest-grossing film overall. Deadpool & Wolverine, a film from Marvel Studios, is the 12th most grossing film in the United States and the second-best release of 2024. As of right now, Moana 2 is the fifth highest-grossing film of the year. Additionally, Disney’s 20th Century labels brought in $171M and $105M for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and Alien: Romulus, respectively.

As stated in a town hall in November 2023, his goal since succeeding Chapek has been to: “I think when it comes to creativity, quality is critical, of course, and quantity in many ways can destroy quality.”
