The new untitled Spider-Man film from Sony and Marvel Studios, starring Tom Holland and Destin Daniel Cretton, will be released a week later on July 31 in 2026 rather than July 24.
The next movie starring the Marvel superhero will now be released in theaters on July 31, 2026, one week later than originally planned, Sony Pictures announced on Friday. The film is currently untitled and is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings).
With this modification, the project will have more time before Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which also stars Holland and opens in theaters on July 17, 2026. The cast of Universal’s feature adaptation of Homer’s epic poem is impressive and includes Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron.
Why is July 31 so special compared to July 24? Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine opened with $211.4M in domestic sales and $444.7M worldwide on this final Friday in July.
However, Spidey’s previous date was taking place just one week after Christopher Nolan’s new film, The Odyssey, which starred Matt Damon, was released by Universal on July 17. On its revised release date, Spidey will now face Spin Master/Paramount’s Paw Patrol 3 two weeks after Nolan’s feature adaptation of the Homer epic.
Paw Patrol 3, an animated film from Paramount, is also scheduled for release on July 31, 2026.
Holland last appeared on screen as the valiant webslinger in Spider-Man: No Way Home, released in 2021 and grossing over $1.9 billion worldwide. Jon Watts, who directed Holland in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), was the director of that movie.
The new Spider-Man movie was written by Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna, who had previously written No Way Home.
The newest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain America: Brave New World, was released in theaters last week. In order to enable the well-known character to join the MCU, Sony, the company that owns the film rights to Spider-Man, partnered with Disney in 2015.
Marvel fans can look forward to Thunderbolts in May and Disney’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which opens in theaters on July 25. Robert Downey Jr. will play Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled for release next year.
For approximately two weeks, it can also be assumed that Nolan will receive his fair share of Imax screens. Probably another explanation for Spider-Man’s relocation.

What is the new release date for Spider-Man 4?
Today, Sony revealed that July 31, 2026, will now be the release date for Spider-Man 4. The original date of July 24, 2026, has been postponed by one week. This means that the movie will be released nearly three months after Avengers: Doomsday, which is also rumored to in some way include Tom Holland as Spider-Man.
Although not much is known about Spider-Man 4, Holland did share some information about the film last week. Holland stated during a recent round of visits to different talk shows that it will be “different” from what viewers might anticipate.
Negotiations were underway in September for Destin Daniel Cretton to direct Spider-Man 4, replacing Jon Watts, who directed the first three Holland-led superhero films. The most well-known work that Cretton has directed is Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. After being chosen to helm Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, Cretton left the project just before Jonathan Majors was fired by Marvel.
Based on current knowledge and the official release dates, Marvel Studios’ next theatrical release slate appears to be as follows:
