Facebook said on Wednesday that it is implementing passkey support for both iOS and Android.
Because passkey logins necessitate physical access to your phone, they make it more difficult for bad actors to access your accounts remotely. In contrast to standard logins, passkeys verify logins using a physical security authentication key, a PIN, or Face ID or Touch ID.
Using username and password combinations, which are vulnerable to phishing and other problems, is no longer necessary with passkeys.
According to Facebook, users will be able to use the same passkey for both services when passkeys are rolled out to Messenger in the upcoming months.
According to Facebook, passkeys can also be used to automatically fill in payment details when using Meta Pay to make transactions.
You must go to the Accounts Center’s new “passkey” option in the Facebook Settings menu in order to set up a passkey. After it’s configured, you may begin logging into Facebook on your phone with your passkey. When using a device that does not support passkeys, you will still be able to access your account using other authentication methods, including your password, allowing you to continue using the social network.
In the last year or two, a number of tech companies have implemented passkey support, including Facebook. Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Google, PayPal, TikTok, WhatsApp, X, and GitHub are among the other well-known companies that have done this.
